Most modern Internet browsers allow users to search directly from the address bar, which uses its own default search engine. Sometimes a default search engine may change when new software is installed and a user forgets to uncheck the option box warning about the switch.
If you prefer to change the default search provider for your Internet browser, read the instructions below, which explain how to change the default search engine used for the address bar in Firefox®.
Changing the URL bar search provider:
- Launch Firefox®.
- In the address bar, type “about:config” and press “Enter”.
- Click on the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.
- Type “keyword.url” in the search box at the top of the page and press “Enter”.
- Double click on the “keyword.url” entry. It will open a dialog box where you can edit the ‘keyword.url’ string.
- Change this string to your Internet browser of choice.
Usually, change only the name (characters) of the provider domain. - Click on the “OK” button.
