The Temp folder in your computer is used as a temporary storage space for files that the operating system automatically places there, but may not have always properly deleted. You can find the Temp folder in Windows® 7 at “C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp. If you want to change the Temp folder location, for example, if you want to increase available space on your disk drive, read the instructions below on how to do that.

Instructions for changing the Temp folder:

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut “Win Key + Pause Break”.
  2. Click on the “Advanced system settings” in the left navigation.
  3. Click on the “Environment Variables…” button located at the bottom of the dialog box.
  4. In the “User variables for <user>” section select TEMP and click on the edit button.
  5. Change the “Variable value” path on a new folder you have prepared.
  6. Click on the “OK” button (three times to save all changes).
  7. Repeat steps 4 – 6 for the TMP variable.
