how to use the plagiarism checker to scan the Web

If you are running a website containing texts or other strings you have written, and you are the author of the content on the page, you usually want to know if someone is copying your work. There is an online tool that is similar to the Google® or Yahoo!® fulltext search bots. The plagiarism checker browses other pages and websites for a query (usually a sentence or unique strings) and gives you results for the pages containing it. To learn how to use the plagiarism checker you can follow the steps below and learn to scan the Web for anyone who has plagiarized your website.

Checking for plagiarism on the Web:

  1. Open your Internet browser and go to the Plagiarism Checker© home page.
  2. Type or copy and paste any phrase or sentence from your own page into the gray box.
  3. Click on the “Search” button.
  4. You will be redirected to the Google® search results for your query.
  5. You can see pages containing your sentence; keywords are in bold so you can spot any plagiarized text easily.

Tips and Tricks:

  • If you want to use a search engine directly, type your sentence into the search box within quotation marks to search for it.
