Portable Document Format (PDF) is a standard file format that can be used to capture, share and view content created in nearly any software application. PDFs can be shared over the Internet or by other methods, without compromising the integrity of the content and layout of the original document. The “How Do I Open a PDF File?” article illustrates how to install an application to open this kind of file. As mentioned in that article, PDF files are often found on websites throughout the Internet. The file format is open standards-based and works independently from any specific software or hardware. PDF documents can contain text, images and/or hyperlinks, and can be easily transferred between computers. Adobe® Systems, Inc. offers software for creating and manipulating PDFs, but the software is not free. This article describes how to install an open source PDF creator.
