How to delete the history from a browser using Windows®

Sometimes computers are shared by more than one user. As you do searches on a browser, those searches are captured in the history. You may not want everyone to know what you were searching for or the websites you were visiting. The Internet browser allows you to delete this history. The Microsoft Windows® operating system can also delete this history independently of a browser. To delete the history from a browser using Windows®, follow the instructions below.

Instructions:

  1. Click on the “Start” button, then choose “Control Panel” link.
  2. For Microsoft Windows XP click on “Switch to Classic View” in the left pane.
For Microsoft Windows 7 click on the “Network and Internet” link.
  3. Open the “Internet options” icon.
  4. Click on the “Delete…” button in the  “Browsing History” section of “General” tab.
  5. In the “Delete History Browsing” window, check the “History” checkbox.
  6. Click the “Delete” button.
  7. When the process finishes, click on the “OK” button to close the window.

Tips and tricks:

  • In the “Delete History Browsing” window, check the “Form data” and “Passwords” checkboxes to delete personal information as well.
