If you have installed a Western Digital® hard disk drive in your computer or if you own an external hard drive from this manufacturer and you want to have the device checked, you are offered the Data Lifeguard© application. This is official software from Western Digital® and you can download it directly from their home page. Follow the instructions below for the details.
Download and Install instructions:
- Open your Internet browser and go to the Western Digital® home page.
- In the main navigation bar, click on “Support” and choose the “Downloads” option.
- Select your product (or a similar one) from the list.
- Once you are at the product page you should see a “Data Lifeguard Diagnostic” link for your operating system. Click on it.
- More information will display. Click on the “Download” button. Save the zipped file to your hard drive and unzip it.
- Run the “Setup.exe” file.
- On the welcome screen, click on the “Next” button. Then, select the installation path and click on the “Next” button again.
- Specify the icon settings and click on the “Next” button. Finally, click on the “Install” button.
- Click on the “Finish” button.
- Launch the application, accept the license agreement and click on the “next” button.
- The user interface will show you the installed WD® hard drives. Select the disk you want to diagnose. Right click on it and select the “Run Diagnostic” option.
- Select a text from the list and click on the “Start” button.
