Caps Lock key is disable

Do you sometimes find yourself suddenly typing in all upper case because you accidentally hit the Caps Lock key? Many people become annoyed by this situation and simply hate the Caps Lock button on their keyboard. In fact, I have seen users remove the Caps Lock keys from their hardware just to avoid having this ever happen again.

You don’t have to go to this extreme to stop locking your keyboard. In Windows XP®, Windows Vista®, and Windows® 7, the keyboard functions can be changed in the registry. Actually, there are some applications that offer a simple interface to disable any key in registry. One such application is named SharpKeys©. This article explains how you can program your keyboard so the Caps Lock key is disabled and you’ll never accidently type in all upper case again.

Disabling the Caps Lock key via SharpKeys©:

  1. Launch your Internet browser and go to the SharpKeys© homepage.
  2. Click the “Download” button on the right side of the screen.
  3. Read the license and click the “I Agree” button.
  4. Save the installation file (sharpkeys35.msi) on your hard drive and launch it.
  5. On the welcome screen, click on the “Next” button.
  6. Select installation folder and click the “Next” button, then start the installation by clicking the “Next” button again.
  7. When the process finishes, click the “Close” button.
  8. Launch the application (Start > All Programs > RandRants.com > SharpKeys > SharpKeys).
  9. Click the “Add” button.
  10. In the left list “Map this key (From key)” select “Special: Caps_Lock (00_3A)” and in the right list “To this key (To key)” select “—Turn Key Off (00_00)”.
  11. Click the “OK” button.
  12. Close the application, confirm the registry change and reboot your computer.
