Phishing is not a well-known Internet threat, yet it is one of the most serious dangers users face when accessing Internet services, such as email. You can read a detailed description of phishing in the IT Glossary; but generally, phishing comes in the form of an informational request from someone who wants to get your personal information and pretends to be a credible institution or company. For example, you may receive an email that appears to be from your bank, requesting private information. You may be asked to fill out a form on a website that looks similar to your true bank’s site. This is how attackers may steal your identity and why phishing is very dangerous.
There are several things you can do to help protect yourself against phishing. Your first level of protection is to always be 100 percent sure about the site where you are providing information about your accounts, personal dates, etc. You also can help yourself by installing anti-phishing protection, like Web Security Guard. This application contains a component that analyzes websites you visit and can identify phishing pages. Read the instructions below to learn how to enable this feature of Web Security Guard.
