how to install MSN® Messenger on a PC running the Microsoft Windows®

If you have ever wondered what MSN® Messenger is, it is an online instant messaging system. Instant messengers are getting more and more popular for communication. People often use them for short messages instead of using email or phones.

Today there are many instant messengers available; a well-known example is connected with the Microsoft® network. The term “MSN” has come to be synonymous with this service in Internet slang. MSN® was originally known under the “MSN® Messenger Services” name. It was first launched in 1999 to compete with AOL Instant Messenger®. As mentioned in the article about Skype® (see the article that focuses on the installation of Skype®) the applications in these types of software have similar features. To find a user, search in the registered users database. With one click you can have a conversation with the friend of your choice. The content below will show you how to install MSN® Messenger on a PC running the Microsoft Windows® operating system.

  1. Open your Internet browser and type www.msn.com into the URL address box. In the top navigation bar click the “Messenger” link. On the “Windows Live Messenger” page, choose the version for your operating system and download it.
For Microsoft Windows® XP, Windows Vista® and Windows® 7 there are different versions of the application!
  2. Save the file to any location in your computer.
  3. Locate the downloaded file and run the installer (double click the file). If your operation system asks you for confirmation click the “Run” button.
  4. Now you have two options. You can get all the programs of Microsoft Live® Essentials, or choose only some of them. Most people will only choose Windows Live® Messenger. Click the “Install” button.
  5. When the installing process finishes, choose your preferences and continue on to the home page, etc. Then click the “Continue” and “Close” buttons.
  6. Windows Live® Messenger will launch if you have a Windows Live® ID sign in. If you don’t, click “Sign up” and set up your email account.
  7. Then sign in and enjoy your MSN Live® Messenger.

Tips and tricks:

  • If you use Hotmail®, MSN® Messenger, or Xbox LIVE®, you already have a Windows Live® ID.
  • You can set your Windows Live® ID to your existing email account and log in through this email, you just need to register this email on the “Create your Windows Live ID” page.

  • Please do not share your account and password, they are easily abused.
