Purple-fleshed Potatoes Inhibit Tumor Cells

 

You may not have heard but bear in mind that potato juice has been used for ages as a natural pain reliever and to help with digestive problems and constipation.

Potatoes have a positive effect on the condition of muscles and joints, as well as skin, hair, and nails. They have a calming effect, but they also help boost immunity, positively affect blood vessels and the heart, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and adjust metabolism and hematopoiesis.

Essential Vitamins and Minerals

Potatoes are loaded with potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, fluorine, phosphorus, copper, and iron. Your body needs these minerals for normal heart and blood functioning. Potatoes contribute to your healthy diet; just make sure not to prepare them with loads of fat. Steaming or baking will do fine. However, to best preserve the minerals and vitamins, try raw potato juice. Potato Juice is full of Vitamins A, C, and B, and protein!

Potato pigment also plays an important role. Dark yellow or orange potatoes are high in the carotenoid zeaxanthin, which is essential for good vision and can help cure certain eye diseases. Purple-fleshed potatoes contain high amounts of anthocyanins, which help inhibit tumor cells. According to a study published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry in August 2015, baked purple-fleshed potatoes (a good source of anthocyanins and phenolic acids) slow the growth of colon cancer tumors in mice by increasing the apoptosis of the colon cancer stem cells. After four weeks, mice that consumed purple potato extract had about 50 percent fewer colon cancer tumors compared to the control group.

Treat Acne with Potatoes

Usually the same foods that are good for your health are good for your skin, and potatoes are no exception.

To help get rid of your pimples, put a slice of potato over each area where you notice pimples, let it sit there for 15 minutes, and then wash it off. For severe acne, prepare a potato mask. Peel and grate one larger potato, apply it as a mask to your skin, and let it work for 30 minutes before washing off.  Apply it twice a day – in the morning and in the evening. After one week, your skin should begin clearing up significantly.  Add raw potato drinks to also help clean your skin from the inside. According to the server Acne.org, potato treatments were rated an average of 4.7 out of 5 and 95% of members would recommend it to a friend.

Improve Hair Growth

To make your hair grow faster, add shine, and keep your scalp healthy, use fresh potato juice (about four potatoes will do) and gently massage it on your scalp. The massage should last about 10 minutes. Then use a wide-toothed comb and comb from the roots to the ends and let the mask sit. For better results, cover your hair with a shower cap or a plastic wrap. Rinse it off after 20 minutes. Apply this mask once a week.

How to Prepare Potato Juice

The juice of a potato is very alkaline. It helps to counteract excess acid for treating gastritis, colic, and gastric ulcers.

Before preparing the juice, make sure to get the healthiest potatoes possible with no pesticide residues, no sprouts, and no green marks, which contain toxins. Organic is preferred.

Always prepare and drink the juice fresh. Clean the potatoes thoroughly but don’t peel them; the skin contains a lot of those important vitamins and minerals. You will need a good performance juicer. The taste is not great, but you can add honey, herbs, or mix in carrots or apples. If you do not have a juicer, simply use a blender and make a smoothie to better preserve all of the nutrients from the potato skin. You can also add a raw potato to other smoothie recipes. If not a fan of smoothies — these would be pretty thick — then use a fine mesh strainer and press the mixture through it with a spatula to extract the juice.
