IMAP or Internet Message Access Protocol, is newer and more advanced than the traditional Post Office Protocol (POP). IMAP allows users to access emails and files stored on the mail server.

What are the benefits of IMAP?

• Accessibility: You can access your mailbox from various devices (mobile phone, PDA, PC, Mac) and any location (from home, work, on the road, etc.).
• Synchronization: Data can be synchronized across all available devices.
• Safety: Your emails and files are safely stored on the server so even if your notebook is lost you can still access your mailbox from other devices.
• Speed: IMAP access from mobile devices is much faster than POP because it downloads only the headers of new emails. The email content is downloaded only when needed.
• Access modes(*): Offline – if you switch your email client to offline mode then all emails will be downloaded and stored locally to your device so you can access your mailbox without Internet connectivity. When you switch back to online mode your local data will be synchronized with the mail server.

How can I activate IMAP for my mail client or device?

Please login to Inbox.com webmail and go to Activate IMAP page http://email.inbox.com/imap_activate.aspx.

Click "Activate IMAP" at the bottom of the page.

IMAP activation is an asynchronous process which will take about 1-5 minutes. After activation you can set up your device or email client to access your account via IMAP.
