Pistons News and Scores

Valued Voice

With both Jose Calderon and Will Bynum pending free agents, it stands to reason Joe Dumars will solicit the opinion of Maurice Cheeks if the Pistons address point guard in the draft, Keith Langlois writes for True Blue Pistons.

Draft Preview: Point Guards at 37

If the Pistons pass on taking a point guard with their lottery pick, there’ll be no shortage of quality left on the board when they pick at 37 in round two, including South Dakota State’s Nate Wolters and Murray State’s Isaiah Canaan.

Draft Preview: Sleepers at 8

If there’s a wild card for the Pistons to draft, it should come from another group that includes Gonzaga’s Kelly Olynyk and Duke’s Mason Plumlee, Keith Langlois writes for True Blue Pistons' draft preview series.

‘Exactly What We Needed’

Joe Dumars wanted someone who could stand before the Pistons every day and command the locker room, and everything he learned about Maurice Cheeks over the past several weeks led him to believe he’s that guy.

Draft Preview: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Two years ago, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope came out of high school regarded as a better shooting guard prospect than classmate Ben McLemore. Can he convince the Pistons to take him with the No. 8 pick?

A Logical Choice

Mo Cheeks’ reputation for connecting with young players should serve him well with the Pistons, led by Greg Monroe, Brandon Knight, Kyle Singler and Andre Drummond from the past three drafts, Keith Langlois writes for True Blue Pistons.

A Cheeks Fan

George Blaha broadcast all of Maurice Cheeks’ playing career and figured it was only time before he got another chance to be an NBA head coach. Coming to the Pistons could be the perfect scenario for him, he says.

Cureton: ‘The Right Guy’

One-time Piston Earl Cureton broke into the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers and was a teammate of Mo Cheeks’ when they won the 1983 NBA title. He says Joe Dumars found the right coach for the Pistons, Keith Langlois writes for True Blue Pistons.

Mo’s Moment

Mo Cheeks never had a right place, right time, right circumstances shot in his first two NBA head coaching gigs. With the Pistons positioned for a big off-season, that time could be now in Detroit, Keith Langlois writes for True Blue Pistons.

Draft Preview: Anthony Bennett

Three projected top-10 picks have medical conditions that will prevent them from working out for teams, including UNLV’s Anthony Bennett. Keith Langlois looks at Bennett for the True Blue Pistons draft preview series.

Draft Preview: Cody Zeller

Cody Zeller was considered a top-five pick before deciding not to enter the 2012 NBA draft. He had a better sophomore season at Indiana, yet there's a chance he’ll be available at No. 8 this year. Keith Langlois' True Blue Pistons draft series continues.

Scoping Out the Draft

The Pistons didn’t get visits from Greg Monroe, Brandon Knight or Andre Drummond prior to the draft. Will they make it four-for-four this year with an unexpected draft-night drop? Keith Langlois takes a look for True Blue Pistons.

Twists & Turns

One pick – Cleveland’s selection of Tristan Thompson at No. 4 in 2011 – was the root of both Brandon Knight and Andre Drummond becoming Pistons. They might be Toronto teammates if the Cavs had done the expected.

Draft Preview: Otto Porter

The Pistons probably won’t get a shot to draft the Georgetown sophomore, but it wouldn’t be the first time a Big East Player got passed over and wound up in Detroit. Keith Langlois profiles Porter as True Blue Pistons’ draft preview series continues.

Draft Preview: Shabazz Muhammad

Shabazz Muhammad walks down the path taken a year earlier by Andre Drummond – trying to restore his once-lofty draft status after an uninspiring freshman season, Keith Langlois writes as True Blue Pistons continues its draft preview series.

Khris Middleton played sparingly over his rookie season’s first four months, but he made the most of his chance over the final quarter of the season and looks to take off from there in 2013-14, he tells Keith Langlois for True Blue Pistons.

Draft Preview: Victor Oladipo

Nobody was talking about Victor Oladipo as a first-round pick, never mind a lottery lock, when his junior season began last November. Now, odds are the Pistons probably won’t get a chance to spend the No. 8 pick on him.
