How do I configure Thunderbird 1.5 to send and receive mail from my Inbox.com email account?

Before setting up the POP3 access you first need to activate POP3 in your Inbox account.

After you activate POP3 & SMTP access in your Inbox.com account, you can easily setup your mail client by following the instructions below:

To configure your email client Thunderbird 1.5, follow these steps:

1. Open Thunderbird, and select the "Account Settings..." option in the "Tools" menu (or, in the "Edit" menu, if you are using Thunderbird for Linux).
   
   



2. Click on the "Add Account...." button.
   
   



3. Select the "Email account" option button and click on the "Next" button.
   
   
   
   
4. Enter your full name in the "Your Name:" field. Enter your full Inbox.com email address (username@inbox.com) in the "Email Address:" field, and click on the "Next" button.
   
   
   
   
5. Select "POP" as the type of incoming server you are using. Enter my.inbox.com in the "Incoming Server:" field, and in the "Outgoing Server:" field, and click on the "Next" button.
   
   
   
   
6. Enter your Inbox.com username (including '@inbox.com') in the "User Name:" field, and click on the "Next" button. You have to enter your full email address.
   
   
   
   
7. Enter a name for your email account in the "Account Name:" field, and click on the "Next" button.
   
   
   
   
8. Verify your account information in the dialog box, and click on the "Finish" button.
   
   
   
   
9. During the first password check you will be asked to enter your Inbox.com password. If you want to avoid entering the password anytime you send or receive emails, select the "Use Password Manager to remember this password" checkbox and click on the "OK" button.

If you see the following message...

...go to "Account Settings", select the "Use name and password" checkbox and fill out your Inbox.com user name in the "User Name" field below.

It is recommended to use the secured ports 465 to send your emails. To change the default Outgoing Server (SMTP) port, type the alternate port number into the "Port:" column on the SMTP Server window as pictured above.
